Mobile Golf Cart Repair in North Austin
Golf carts in the Austin area are a different market from Sun City Texas, and being straight about that is more useful than pretending otherwise. This is not a place where thousands of carts do the daily shopping run. It is a place where individual owners keep a cart for a lake house, an acreage, an event, a ranch, or a neighbourhood that happens to allow them, and where that cart is often the only one on the street.
That shapes both what breaks and how we cover it.
Where we actually come
North Austin and the northern corridor: up I-35 and 183 through Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Leander, plus Avery Ranch, Wells Branch, and the neighbourhoods on that side of the city. That is a standing route from Georgetown and it carries no travel surcharge.
Central and south Austin is beyond practical range for a mobile cart service based up here, and we say so on the phone rather than booking a call we cannot serve well. If you are south of the river, you are better served by someone based closer, and we will say that too.
What Austin-area carts actually need
Batteries, overwhelmingly. A cart that is used occasionally, kept outdoors or in a hot garage, and charged irregularly is a cart whose pack will not reach its rated life. Central Texas heat evaporates electrolyte out of flooded lead-acid batteries and sulphation builds on plates left at partial charge. A pack here commonly reaches end of life at four or five years rather than six or seven, and faster on a cart that sits. Lead-acid packs are $1,200–$1,800 installed, lithium conversions $1,600–$3,500, and the battery calculator prices both.
The sat-too-long problem. More than in a cart community, Austin-area carts sit. A cart used four times a year in a hot garage, on a charger that nobody checks, is the classic dead-pack story. The sat all summer page covers what is recoverable and what is not.
Tires that aged out. Golf cart tires here die of sun, not tread. Fine cracking across the sidewall on a tire with plenty of tread left is the normal finding on an eight-year-old cart. Tires are $75–$150 each installed, $300–$600 a set.
Brakes that have not been touched. Electric carts do most of their slowing with regenerative braking, so the mechanical brakes glaze and corrode rather than wearing in. On a cart used on any slope, and on a cart parked on a driveway with a grade, that is worth an adjustment at around $75 long before it becomes a $400 overhaul.
The legal question, because people ask
Texas treats golf carts and low-speed vehicles as separate classifications with separate rules. A golf cart may be operated on public roads only in limited circumstances, which include roads with a posted limit of 35 mph or less within five miles of where the cart is usually kept, and inside master planned communities with uniform restrictive covenants and an approved plat. Outside such a community it needs a golf cart licence plate, issued through the county tax office. Individual cities and neighbourhoods may restrict it further.
A low-speed vehicle is a different thing: it must meet federal equipment standards and is registered, titled, and insured like a vehicle. Converting a cart into an LSV is not a matter of adding mirrors and a horn.
We are not lawyers and we will not tell you what is legal on your particular street. What we will do is tell you what equipment your cart has and does not have, honestly, and point you at the street legal page and the relevant authority.
Pricing and how the visit works
Published rates, same everywhere we go: $50–$100 service call applied toward the repair, and the full price list for everything else. The visit starts with diagnosis, not with parts: load test on every battery, charger output, solenoid and controller checks, roll test, brakes and tires. Then a number, then your approval, then the work.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far into Austin do you come?
North Austin and the northern suburbs are a normal run for us: everything up the I-35 and 183 corridors through Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Leander, plus the Avery Ranch and Wells Branch side. Central and south Austin are beyond the practical range for a mobile cart service based in Georgetown, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than taking the booking.
Are golf carts legal on Austin streets?
Only in limited circumstances. Texas law allows golf cart operation on roads with a posted limit of 35 mph or less, within five miles of where the cart is usually stored, and in master planned communities with uniform restrictive covenants and an approved plat, among a few other cases. Outside such a community it requires a golf cart licence plate, issued through the county tax office. A low-speed vehicle is a different classification with its own registration and equipment requirements. The [street legal page](/golf-cart-street-legal-texas/) walks through it.
What does a call in north Austin cost?
The same published rates as Georgetown: $50–$100 service call applied to the repair, lead-acid packs $1,200–$1,800, lithium $1,600–$3,500, brake work $75–$400, tires $75–$150 each. No separate travel charge inside the covered area.
Do you work on carts kept at a storage facility?
Yes, and a good share of Austin-area carts live in storage rather than at home. Give us the facility and the space, and make sure we can get access.
